I've procrastinated on this post long enough. I've come to the realization that there is no perfect way to write it. Secondly, I'm pretty sure that I will stretch this out into longer than one post. There is just too much information for that. My goal is to present this information in such a way that it will impact your life as it did mine. Let me start from the beginning...sort of...
Steve and I have a pretty good relationship, especially compared to today's standards. We often are asked "What is our secret?"
We LOVE to share what we have learned.
Things have not always been easy and the devil has tried to destroy our relationship just as he has any marriage. If it were not for the grace of God and sheer determination on our part, things would not be as they are today. That being said, we decided to renew our wedding vows on February 16th in honor of celebrating our 20th anniversary coming up in a couple of months. I know, why not on our actual anniversary?! Because we travel in the summer months and are not able to do much on our actual anniversary date.
We went on a second honeymoon in Branson after our vow renewal ceremony and attended a Motive Matters seminar. There, we learned all about The Color Code.
The knowledge we learned in one weekend was like taking a CLEP test and skipping ahead 20 years in our relationship.
I feel like we know each other and love each other as you see couples who have been married 50 years or more do. It is absolutely amazing. What we learned we were also able to apply as parents also and it has totally changed the dynamics in our home.
Studying about personalities has always intrigued me and I have independently studied these for two decades. The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman, Discover your God-Given Gifts by Don and Katie Fortune, The Birth Order Book by Kevin Leman, The Arno Profile System which is the 5 Temperaments: Supine, Phlegmatic, Melancholy, Sanguine, and Choleric (which I studied about in college), the Animal Characteristics by Gary Smalley and John Trent: lion, golden retriever, otter, and beaver, DiSC and probably more. (I told you I have studied about a lot!) All of these methods are great with each one helping you define your personality. They have helped countless people and I do not want to give the impression that they are not good or not credible. What I am saying is this:
The Color Code by Motive Matters trumps all of the above!
Since this is my blog, this is my opinion. It is not my intention to offend anyone who might have a differing opinion.
The reason The Color Code trumps all of the other personality analyses is because it goes much deeper than "These are the characteristics that make up your personality". It defines the innate core driving motive in each person. Innate means you are born with it! It is who you are when you wake up in the morning, why you do what you do throughout the day, and who you are when you go to sleep at night. It is what drives you. You can never get away from it because God gave it to you when He formed you in the womb.
Dr. Hartman uses four colors which eliminates confusion and encourages clarity in finding out the motive behind your innate driving core personality:
These internal driving core motive colors show how each person views the world around them. Once you understand yourself and your core motive it will change your self-awareness and give you tools to effectively relate and communicate with those around you. You can use The Color/People Code in every aspect of life; from choosing a mate to parenting, from working on an assembly line to management, from the pulpit to the pew, and from being able to enjoy yourself and those around you at any event to being alone. When you appreciate how someone's motive plays in the dynamics of relationships, you can begin to have a richer, more fuller life. You will never view others and yourself the same way again.
