"Created" Chapter 3

Chapter 3
A Thankful Spirit
A wise woman sets a joyful mood in her home.  Through laughter, music, and happy times, she creates a positive attitude in her children.  She knows that a lighthearted home relieves her husband of stress.

Prov. 15:15

Are you downcast and unthankful?  This dishonors God and attacks your husband's ego.  I will have to quote an entire paragraph from Debi Pearl here because she just says it best.  I don't feel I can do it justice by trying to condense it.  She says, Some women get it in their minds that if the family would just move to the country, they would be happy and their children would not be getting into sinful habits.  Or, if they lived closer to the church, or away from bad neighbors, or spent more time in family devotions, or any number of ifs, ands,or buts, then life would be better.  This is a sure recipe for disaster.  Discontentment is not a product of circumstances; it is the state of the soul.  Remember, "All the days of the afflicted are evil: but he that is of a merry heart hath a continual feast" (Prov. 15:15). Paul said, "...for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content" (Phil. 4:11).  The author of Hebrews says, "...and be content with such things as ye have" (Heb. 13:5).  In I Timothy we read, "But godliness with contentment is great gain.  For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.  And having food and raiment let us be therewith content" (I Tim. 6:6-8).

Another quote from Debi is Thankful people have a view of life that begins somewhere deep in their souls, and outside circumstances just can't mar their joy.  And thankfulness is how you think; joy is the abundance it produces.  I just couldn't say it better.  Have you ever purposed in your heart that you were going to be merry even if you did not feel like it?  What happened?  I hope yo did not give up after one or two tries.  We all know the familiar saying, "practice makes perfect".  A joyful heart does not come natural because our sinful nature does not want to allow it.  You have to push aside the natural tendencies of our carnal side and purpose that today we are going to have a thankful heart.  The more tries you have at this, the better you will get at it...the easier it will be.  Start with a smile.  Right now.  Smile.  When Robin Hood learned to fly he had to "think happy thoughts"!  Want to have a lighthearted feeling in your chest?  Think happy thoughts.  Count your blessings.  Col. 3:15 advises, "And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful."

Consider this:
Gal. 5:22-23 Joy is a fruit of the spirit.  Am I a "poor me" person?  Am I thankful daily for my husband and children?  When taking a personality test, would my friends describe me as joyful, thankful, and content?  Phil. 3:13
